St Regis Mauritius: Secluded Luxury at the Iconic Le Morne Peninsula

Sitting in the footsteps of the iconic Le Morne Brabant Mountain and in one of the most beautiful beaches on the island, you will be blown away by the natural beauty surrounding the St Regis Mauritius. A combination of luxury and the most perfect natural splendor is what really makes this property special.

Location & How to Get There:

At just over an hour drive from the Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam  (MRU) airport, the St Regis Mauritius is located on one of the best locations on the island in the Le Morne Peninsula. If you have seen a photo of Mauritius, odds are it’s from this part of the island. The iconic Le Morne Brabant Mountain, the pristine beach, along with an optical illusion of a waterfall (it looks like a waterfall but it’s not really one), is what draws people to visit Mauritius and has become the iconic image of the island.

With only Madagascar and the south of Africa being nearby Mauritius, and with only a selection of direct flights (Dubai, Johannesburg, London, Paris, Seychelles and among a few more), you can enjoy the perfect tropical hideaway with fewer tourists. I would highly recommend planning airfare in advance because the prices can increase (sometimes triple) close to the date. Another option is to combine Seychelles and Mauritius in one trip since they are only 2 hours away via a direct flight with Air Seychelles (wish I would have known!).

You can schedule transfers directly with the hotel with a third party company that they work with. If you are only staying in the Le Morne area, I would recommend to book a taxi transfer instead of renting a car unless you plan on exploring other sides of the island.

The Room:

With 9 different room categories and over 170 rooms including private villas, there are plenty of room options to choose from. Our Beach Front Junior Suite had a spacious master bedroom with a small sofa (makes for a great bed for little ones), walking closet, oversized bathroom with one of the biggest free-standing bathtubs I have seen. Just steps away from the beach and with an outdoor porch perfect to relax and enjoy the breeze.  The location of our suite was right in front of the sunset which was just magical! Ask for room #281 or any other along the same line.

Pool, Beach & Amenities:

The St Regis Mauritius is designed like a traditional Manor House with a blend of contemporary and colonial style. Since the property is built around the Manor House, here is will you will find most of the hotel amenities as well as your starting category rooms in the property.

In the manor house, you will find the main reception, concierge, gym, conference room, game room, wedding reception room, library, and areas such as writing and reading areas. On the ground floor, you have Le Manoir Dining Room which is where breakfast is served overlooking the hotel’s main pool. The oversized pool is perfect to accommodate the guests in the hotel without feeling cramped.

Right across from the pool and the manor house is one of the finest beaches in all of the island. The water is so beautiful, and the whole area is very peaceful. During our stay the hotel was at full capacity but not once did it feel that way. The beach is so wide and spread out that it still feels very peaceful and quiet.

And being right at the footsteps of the Le Morne Brabant mountain is really quite extraordinary!

If you are celebrating a special occasion, the hotel can arrange for special romantic activities for couples such as a romantic dinner on the beach right at sunset hour and a few different massage packages. We were lucky enough to be able to experience both. Due to the wind, we were not able to have the dinner on the beach and had it instead in the Boathouse restaurant and it was still lovely.  Our absolutely favorite experience was the Morning Bliss in Paradise package that starts early in the morning. You are greeting with a healthy welcome drink, followed by a couples massage and a chef prepared breakfast for you and your partner right on the beach. And once you’re done you can lounge on your private sun beds to finish off this blissful package.

We highly recommend it if you are celebrating a birthday, anniversary, honeymoon, or want to do something romantic as a couple.

If you are traveling with kids, you might be thinking “well… what about the kids”,  you have nothing to worry because the St Regis Mauritius Kids Club is not your typical kid’s club where the kids are spending most if not all of their time indoors. The Kids Club here not only has a fun activity schedule for indoors but they actually have an outdoor area with a small playground, sandpit, lounge chairs, and a pool. Yes, I said pool! With many different fun floats for them to choose from. There is a designated swimming time where they are all supervised by the staff! So while you are getting a massage treatment or lounging by the beach, you know the little ones are having a great time too!

Dining:

The St Regis Mauritius offers five different restaurants in the property varying in concept and flavor. Le Manor Dining Room where breakfast in buffet style is served daily. This buffet offers a wide variety of selections including freshly made juices and even Indian curry (one of the best curries I have ever had and the perfect amount of spice and kick for breakfast).

We had a special vegan dinner arranged for us in the BoatHouse Bar & Grill which serves mostly French cuisine and dinned in the Floating Market which serves Asian cuisine on our last night. This was our favorite meal during our stay. My husband ordered the spicy corn cakes and the chili tofu which was so delicious!

Unfortunately due to some last minute flight changes we missed one day during our stay, so didn’t have the opportunity to dine in Atsuko, Japanese cuisine, or Simply India, Indian cuisine.
