In reply to Julia Kleine. Hi Julia, I am so excited for your Mexico trip! It sounds like a great itinerary and I am so happy to hear that I could help. You know, I didnt believe my driver when he told me about the time difference and searched for it online and couldnt find a definite answer. Sure enough our driver was right but he said the time difference is only at a certain time of the year ( We went in November). If you have time in Tulum, you can check out Raw Love (they have amazing bowls) and Restaurare (one of the best vegan restaurants in Tulum but a little on the pricier side). Going to Mexico for the first time in January. Glad I found your blog, very helpful when making decisions on what to visit and what not to. Thanks for sharing!
But one question! You write that it’s one hour earlier in Chichen Itza than in Playa. Is there really a time difference? I had no idea. We are staying 8 nights; 3 in Akumal, 3 in Tulum (at the beach) and 2 nights in Valladolid. Originally had plans on going to Río Lagartos for one night but after reading your “review” we decided to stay an extra night in Tulum instead. Looking forward to it! 🙂

Hi Claudia thanks for sharing your experience.. I am planning to visit cancun next month & planning to take tour to all 3 places you mentioned. If you could share drivers number that would be awesome. I am not comfortable taking tours. I’d rather be on my own schedule as you mentioned.

Your pictures are gorgeous. I went to Valladolid too, on this Yucatan trip 10 years ago, and I really loved it. Chichen Itza looks better now that you cannot climb anymore! my pictures are full of people climbing the pyramid, which doesn’t look good. But I hadn’t seen the cenote, and I regret it. Next time! it looks amazing!

In reply to Delaine Dcosta. The water in the Cenote was freezing... so if you go in its better to jump. We hired a driver (not really a tour guide) for the whole day so we can be in our own schedule. It is not the cheapest option but since I am a little scared of driving (even at home) and my husband was not with us, and we were lacking in time, I opted for a driver. I believe it was around $160-180 for the whole day including the entrance tickets. If you want his contact number, I can give it to you :)

Chichen Itza & Ikkil are definitely on my list. The cenote looks absolutely amazing. Was the water cold? How much did a private tour cost you & how do you book these taxis?
