Florida’s Best Beaches: Exploring West Palm Beach
West Palm Beach is a city located in Palm Beach Country approximately one and a half hour drive north from downtown Miami. This picturesque and charming city offers the same beautiful beach as Miami but much cleaner and organized since it is not inundated with tourists. This is the place where locals live and hang out. For this reason it is not a surprise that West Palm Beach took first place in Travel Channel’s Florida’s Top 10 Beaches.
If you want to experience what upscale beach front living is in Florida, take a ride along Ocean Blvd where you see houses with bay view on one side and private beach access on the front. You can park your boat and walk to the beach? It doesn’t get much better than that! But off course these homes come with a hefty price tag. You can also walk along charming Worth Avenue home to luxury brands such as Hermes and Gucci all in romantic style boutiques and admire the palm trees that are on both sides of the avenue.
West Palm Beach is a great family place to go on the weekends. It is such a beautiful and relaxing place. And one of the best things is that there is usually always parking right in front of the beach! Unlike South beach were the traffic on the weekends is dreadful and there is usually no public parking so you have to end up paying $20-$40 parking some 5 blocks away from the beach if you are lucky. Once you get to the beach, it was crowded and hectic and instead of inhaling fresh air and listening to the waves, you inhale cigarette smoke and listen to a compilation of different songs from all the tourists next to you who brought their speakers with them. Since the beach is in the north of South Florida, the sand is not as white as it would be in the south end but its is very clean and still very beautiful. If you are visiting Florida and want a peaceful and relaxing vacation, my advice to you is to make the drive to West Palm and stay at least a weekend there. There are hotels for every budget from 5 star resorts to B&B’s just a block or two from the beach.
