Best Hotels in Switzerland: My Experience in The Cambrian Hotel

Best Hotels in Switzerland: My Experience in The Cambrian Hotel

While visiting Switzerland in our road trip this summer through the country, staying in a traditional alpine style cabin nested in the Swiss Alps was a must. How can you visit Switzerland and not stay somewhere like this?!

We wanted something authentic, with sweeping views yet luxurious and comfortable. Luckily we had seen a place like this online a while back and saved it for our future travels. We dug out our “travel wishlist” , looked through the property and realized that The Cambrian Hotel offered exactly what we were looking for. These are the moments when your research and homework come in handy!

The Cambrian Hotel is perfectly located in the small Swiss Alpine village in the Oberland region at about 2 hours away from Zurich. There are two ways to make the drive, either through Lucerne or Bern, either way you can not go wrong with either route because you will be passing through beautiful sceneries. You can decide based on if you want to spend a night or two in either place and then continue to Adelboden. We drove  through Bern not knowing that we would be driving through the city during traffic time so we ended up being delayed by traffic for over half an hour, so keep this in mind.

When we got to the property we realized that unlike what it seems like in the pictures, the hotel is actually located on the main street in the village of Adelboden. From looking at the pictures we had assumed that the hotel was secluded and surrounded by sweeping views. The latter is true, but unfortunately the hotel is not secluded. This has its pros and cons. Pros being that you can easily access and enjoy many actives in town by either bus or walking, and the cons being that from the hotel you can see many other houses in the area and it does not feel very secluded. Even so, the hotel itself has impressive views from anywhere you look, so you will not be disappointed.

The hotel is beautifully decorated, very warm and inviting but the best part is the views, views and views.. Take a look at the view:

You can enjoy the views either from your room which most have terraces with direct view, from the restaurant, lobby, or better, the perfectly heated outdoor infinity pool.

This pool is one of the main reasons we decided to venture out to visit this property in a village in Switzerland that we had never heard off. The views certainly do not disappoint, whether its winter or summer, the view is always amazing. However, the pool is smaller than what it might look like in the picture, and at certain times of the day it can get busy. We spent three nights there in August and in the afternoons the pool was quite busy. Everyone wants to take pictures while they are there but there seems to be a system going on where everyone takes turns so it was great.  What makes it difficult for the picture is that the pool is right next to the restaurant so its surrounded by chairs and if you go in the morning, everyone is having breakfast right next to you which can be quite uncomfortable.

But as you can see, regardless of the weather, the view still does not disappoint.

Once you enjoy the pool, there are a lot of outdoor actives to do around the area such as visiting the town, Engstligen Falls, Lake Blausee, Lake Oeschinensee or if you visit during the winter you can visit Adelboden-Lenk Ski Resort host of FIS Ski World Cup. Since we stayed in one of the most (or if not the ) most spacious room in the property which had a second floor loft with two extra beds for the little one, we spent most of our time relaxing there, enjoying the view from the balcony or from the pool, so we didn’t have much time to really explore the area. At only a quick 10 min drive away from the hotel, we decided to chase Engstligen Falls. Unfortunately, the cable car up was already closed but we still got to enjoy the beautiful view.

We regretted not being able to explore the area but hey, its always a good excuse to go back! We had an amazing time in this property and would love to visit again during the winter. I might even try skiing haha! Maybe I shouldn’t make promises too early…

What a picture perfect place to visit! This is a stunning location and lovely place to stay. August is best avoided in Europe, it is always crowded.

I have to agree with you, I love it too! One of my favorite countries in the world! So many things to do you can never see it all! If you get a chance you should totally visit. We enjoyed it in summer (which was pretty cold!) but would love to also experience it in the winter.

Finding a good solution isn’t easy, because being too far away from the city means you have to rent a car in stead than walking to a restaurant in the evening. You can’t just stroll around for some shopping… and on the other hand, being in overcrowded cities full of noise isn’t appealing. At least to me! I live in a crowded metropolis, I don’t want that when I’m away for some relax! 🙂

Yes exactly! This little town is not super busy, atleast when we went. So it is kind off in between! 🙂
